London Red Routes
............................................................................................................................................

The law governing parking and loading signs and markings on red routes is separate from those covering other roads. The signs and lines are not contained in the TSRGD but under separate DfT approvals. It is called the "Authorisation of traffic signs and road markings for red route controls on GLA roads and GLA side roads" and can be seen below.

However the process for issuing tickets is the same. Click here to see if your ticket is valid.

The DfT Regulations

Summary

*Update 2012* Double red lines now no longer require a sign. This also applies to bus stops. I will post the new DfT authorisation ASAP.

Single red lines should have a limited time sign and these times and days can be varied.

Where signs indicate that parking or loading is allowed at any time of day, these should be accompanied by a white box. Minimum width of a bay is 1.75m, max is 2.5m.

Where signs indicate that parking or loading is allowed only during certain times, these should be accompanied by a red box.

The page below shows the sign and roadmarking combinations that need to be used together. From this you can see that for instance, a "No stopping at any time" sign represented by E and F must be accompanied by reference V, B1, which is a double red line.
